TV show reviews: Supernatural – Part 12

Horror is a difficult genre to fit into the made-for-TV bracket. Unlike police dramas, hospital soap operas, and sitcoms, successful horror needs to develop from the chills, frights, and suspense, to the climatic good vs. evil face-off. In the middle of all this, good horror needs believable explanation. Most of the time, we don’t just accept that these crazy things are happening; we need a plausible reason for the events. These tasks are hard to accomplish in a one-hour show. Though it still has faults, the show Supernatural on the newly redesigned CW fulfills a great need in television – the need for realistic, entertaining fright.

The brothers Sam and Dean travel the country hunting evil, to put it simply. Sometimes the stories are slightly lacking in plausibility, but overall, if you can suspend your disbelief, they are enjoyable. The characters are fun to watch, and the show contains some reasonably scary moments – all you can really ask for in a one-hour television show. Though other networks have made some attempts at the horror, this show is the best that I’ve seen. Medium on NBC is really good, but in a much different way – less scary and more thoughtful. The Ghost Whisperer has some frighening scenes, but lacks depth and value. The characters seemed more superficial, and I had trouble caring about them.

So, if you are a horror fan looking for a good television show, I recommend Supernatural. What it sometimes lacks in storyline, it makes up for in personality.

TV show reviews: Supernatural – Part 6

I’ve been waiting for this. Not for a chance to review one of the most intriguing television shows going around, because that would be bordering obsessive. No, the wait has been for a show actually as good as an addict describes it.

Supernatural follows the lives of two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, as they travel America in their classic Chevy Impala, listening to their classic mullet rock and classically wiping out any evil, supernatural beastie that they can find. From the traditional vampires, demons and ghouls, to the not so conventional reapers, urban legends and deadly sins, there appears to be nothing these demon-hunting brothers can’t banish within an hour.

Described as a weekly horror flick by its own creator, Eric Kripke, Supernatural is more than a fight-fest. Fright is one of the main components, true, but this television show holds viewers for more than that single reason. Fright, the plot and acting all bond together to create one awesome television show.

After a demon killed their mother when Sam was just six months old, the Winchester family began the hunt purely for revenge. With their father lusting for vengeance on the thing that murdered his wife, the brothers were raised to be warriors, fighting the forces of darkness like any good jedi. And, like any good jedi, one of them has a few good jedi mind tricks, and a good reason for any demon to be going after them. Though his psychic abilities manifested later in his life than one would expect, Sam’s gifts’ were nonetheless potent. After dreaming of, and then witnessing the murder of his girlfriend by the same thing that killed his mother, Sam thrust himself back into hunting after a two-year hiatus, and we were taken along for the ride.

This plot, to settle the score, remained a constant story arc through the first two seasons, and even with each new crumb the writers threw us loyal viewers, it was still hard to guess the truth that unfolded at the end of the second season when the brothers finally found payback. They managed to destroy the demon that had changed their lives forever, though it didn’t come without casualties. That’s Supernatural for you. Nothing is what it seems until you see it with your own two eyes, and even the episodes that have little to do with the main story line have their twists and turns. And even though season three has been interrupted, the episodes screened have promised that even with the major baddie dead and buried (or salted and burned,

The belief in fairies and other supernatural beings – Part 6

Two moons ago, I uncovered a root that was marvelously covered in moss and astralagus. Prickly thing to do but something edged me on. I brushed the sand and dirt off this root, which stands about 5 feet high by 5 feet wide. To my not-so-surprised surprise I felt the presence of many spirited creatures completely un-noticed by the human eye, yet felt by human spirit.

Having many spiritual totems that would atune one to the fairy world, I am the published author of “The Last of the Ancient Earth Keepers”, where they first show themselves in my writings. “The Fairies of Willow Tribe” is soon to be released.

“SuperNatural beings” is a funny word. As human two-leggeds we often get the sense of self-importance and chose to believe we are THE MOST important being here on Our Earth Mother. However, if ever to see from the eyes of child, we would be in wonderment as the child holds no judgment against the unknown. Children have no fear, therefore, are often able to speak to the fairies and other beings that we, as adults, have been taught to fear or think of as “crazy”.

If we were to open ourself to having no fear, we may begin to sense other presences around us. If we to become clear in consciousness, we would be visited by other presences. Accepting the fact that this is human nature and that we all have this ability is something we have forgotten along the way of our growing up. In so doing we have made “ghosts” horrifying and “fairies” fantasy.

Loose the fear and enjoy the wonder of the unknown and you may experience the joy of the fairies!

Computer tech support personnel often get paranormal sighting reports, and may be called upon for exorcisms. One of the strangest was a call I received from one of my normal users, at least I thought she was normal before this call.

When I asked what her problem was, she replied, “My computer is possessed.”

Hmmm. This was one I hadn’t heard before. “How do you know it’s possessed,” I asked.

“Well,” she answered brightly, “It’s been possessed before.”

I sent one of my technicians out to perform an exorcism. We didn’t call it that. We called it a normal repair, but that’s not what the user thought.

At times it seems to all of us that our computers are possessed. We want them to do one thing, and they do another. I don’t know about you, but I talk to mine. Actually, I argue with mine. The fact that it’s usually (always?) right doesn’t deter me in the least. Maybe my computer is possessed by the soul of an English teacher who always corrects my spelling and grammar, or maybe a math teacher whose calculations are always correct, very unlike my own.

Computer hackers often create particular viruses based on holidays. Halloween is an especially popular time to release worms, viruses, and hoaxes centered on the observance of the date. Is that neat Halloween screen saver you downloaded a good deal, or does it contain a malevolence that will wind its way through your computer, wrap its tentacles through your files and delete your precious data.

If you encounter a browser hijacker, your computer goes to websites you’ve never heard of before. Your computer surfs entirely out of your control. As soon as your computer starts up, it is no longer under your control. A new icon appears on your desktop proclaiming HOT SEX or something else equally offensive. Your new homepage is a site featuring illicit pleasures or at least the promise of such things.

You reset your homepage and reboot. Your browser returns to the same lurid site. You delete the settings, delete the mystery icon, and edit your registry. When you reboot, the foreign homepage reappears, and the mystery icon is back. You can’t search for help, because you can’t navigate away from your new homepage. All of your restore points are gone. You can call the Geek Squad, but you might be better off calling the Ghost Busters.

Maybe your computer is possessed after all.

Are angels real or imaginary? – Part 1

There’s no doubt that some people are still skeptical about the existence of angels. This is because many people have not come to realize that there is more to life than science and technology can prove. If we believe that human beings are real, then the existence of angels shouldn’t be a subject of debate.

As a mature human being, I believe that there is more to life than we can see or imagine. I believe that there is a Supreme Being that was responsible for the creation of the world. And this Supreme Being does not dwell in the physical realm where we are. There are two sides of existence-the physical and the spiritual. It is in this spiritual realm that God and the angels dwell.

Although I’m a Christian I’ll rather choose not to argue this point on the basis of Christian faith alone. This is because other religions also believe in the reality of angels. Since we are living in the age of science and technology characterized by increase in knowledge, it’ll also be a misnomer to base our knowledge only on religion.

The first question we should ask ourselves is the meaning of reality. What is reality? Does it mean that it is only those things that we can see or perceive that are real? If we hold this believe, it therefore means that life itself is an illusion.

Human beings are real and so are angels. Apart from the stories of several encounters angels had with human beings as recorded in the Bible, I’ve also had the opportunity of listening to true-life stories by people who have had several encounters with angels. The truth about angels is that, unlike us who are limited in all ramifications, angels are not limited. They have the ability to transform or to appear at any environment at any particular time. Angels may choose to appear as a Caucasoid or Negroid depending on the race of the person they have a message for. Gone are the days when we were fed with such misconception that angels of God are white whereas angels of Satan are black.

Angels also have supernatural abilities since they exist in the supernatural realm. Some time ago, a middle-aged woman told me a story of her encounter with angel. According to her, on a Sunday, she left her children at home for church since she was to meet a group of women before the morning service. On getting home after the service, the children could not find the keys to their apartment. She was helpless and afraid because of her husband. So she had to do something before the husband came back. As she approached the main road, she saw a man standing in a kiosk. She asked if the man was a carpenter and the man said he was. The woman was surprised to see a carpenter on a Sunday near her home but she was also glad as the man agreed to accompany her to the house to fix the problem. What surprised the woman the most was that the man could open the door without any keys or tools. He sincerely rejected all the offers the woman presented to him. As he left, the woman followed him immediately only to discover that the man had disappeared. It then occurred to the woman that it was an angel.

This is just one of such stories that show that angels are real. There are other instances people encounter angels in daily basis. You may see one but not recognize because they may take the form of human beings.

How vampires are created

A vampire can only be created by another vampire. There are rules that govern the making of vampires yet this is a golden rule. You cannot become a vampire without the help of another vampire. It is impossible. The legend of the vampire race goes back to ancient times. It is unclear who the first vampire was but it is common knowledge that the only way to make a fledgling vampire is by a host vampire.

To make a fledgling vampire another vampire must use the blood of the victim in a transference scenario. First the host vampire must drink the blood of their victim. They must draw the victim to their last heart beat. Then they must wound themselves and place the blood that flows upon the mouth of the fledgling.

The fledgling will then taste the blood of themselves mixed with the blood of their maker. This leads to tasting then drinking more forcefully. The first taste of blood for a fledgling vampire is a heady experience according to most stories. A delirious ecstasy of the mind is felt as the new blood courses through the veins.

A host vampire and also a fledgling vampire will drink the blood of their victims. This is often portrayed as a bite to the neck or wrist in literature, film and legend. These places upon mortals are the pulse points of the body where blood pounds through the veins. A vampire may not just deal in these areas though. Vampires are not all alike. Each one will have their own preference for where they will give the deadly kiss.

After the blood is shared between the host vampire and the fledgling, the fledgling will experience painful death. This is often brief but extremely terrible. The fledgling may be put into a comatose state or may feel spasms as each organ that is unneeded of the body dies. The amount of time this takes can vary from hours to days. The making of a vampire does not always happen on the first try.

Once the affects of the vampire blood work through the fledgling, they will wake very thirsty. A newly born vampire must drink blood to survive and enhance his abilities. The host vampire will in most cases teach the fledgling how to hunt his victims. This lesson must be learned swiftly as the personality of the host vampire may be quick tempered. If the fledgling fails to learn how to hunt then they will die or bring unwanted attention upon the vampire.

The host vampire is much stronger than the fledgling. Overtime the fledglings abilities will grow as will his strength. A host vampire has the ability to destroy their creation but only when they are new. A newly made vampire may be slow or quick depending upon the personality of the mortal he once was.

There are a few rules that vampires may adhere to before making another vampire. A child shall not be made a vampire, if one is the maker and/or the child vampire will be put to death by the elder vampires. A vampire is not to make another vampire without the express permission of an elder vampire. These rules are not always obeyed. The vampire who breaks these rules will have to face the consequences of his actions.

Living in a haunted house – Part 5

Stinky

I have lived in haunted houses before. I don’t think I believe in ghosts per se. Because I don’t think that people that loved you would come back and haunt you. Also, I believe that when we die our souls just wait for judgment whenever that is. Ghosts are just demons. And you have to be very careful about the way you go about getting rid of them because if you open a door to send them back, you may let something bigger and worse in.

So, like I said, I’ve lived in haunted houses before. One was my great Grand mother’s house in Milledgeville, Ga. It was across the street from some woods. The trees used to go on and on. But by the time I lived there there was a Piggly Wiggly and a T G and Y just on the other side. When my grandfather and his siblings were little they used to see a little white dog come out of the woods, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t hit that dog with a rock. But the house, that’s where the other real paranormal activity took place. Just a little while later.

When I was a baby my mom and aunts visited their grandmother and slept in what would be the den/living-room. There was a fireplace covered in old pictures of people who’s eyes followed you. Anyway, there was a sleeper couch and that’s where they slept. But whoever slept on the right side of the couch could not sleep. So they took turns sleeping on that side.

About 8 years later my mother and I moved to Ga and lived with my great grandmother for about 7 months. Occasionally we would sleep in that room because it was warmer than the spare bedroom. The house had no insulation and the other room didn’t have a fireplace (the only source of heat in the house were the two fireplaces.) For the most part my only problem with this room was that my great grandma’s picture liked to follow me with its eyes. It was terrifying. Until one night I slept in that room by myself. My mom and sister slept in the other room. I swear that I was awake when I saw it. In the corner on the side of the sofa where my aunts had trouble sleeping before, I saw a skeleton. The only thing that gives me pause as to whether or not I was dreaming was that the skeleton was wearing a blond wig.

But this post isn’t about perceived or dreamed ghosts. This is about one that I am sure of and how I got rid of it.

This particular ghost wasn’t exactly scary, though. Just really, really annoying. I couldn’t see it. I could only smell it. This is the part when you stop laughing, ok? No, but

Biblical Fact VS Doctrines Of Demons – Part 1

August 31, 2009 by Winchester

Do NOT question the Bible, not any of it ! Why ? Because if 1% of it is untrue to you, then the other 99% is not fact. The Bible is the word of God. It tells us how we should live our daily lives, how to avoid hell, everything. The Bible was written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Did you know that the Bible is the ONLY book of prophecy that has been, and always will be 100% correct ? Yes

In this day and age of sin, one end-time prophecy that is rapidly gaining a foot-hold is: APOSTASY (Falling away from the truth – Going against what the bible says is right): The Bible says, ‘In the later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons’. What does it mean ‘doctrines of demons’, plainly it means lies. As the Bible says many times the nature of demons is to lie and deceive, we are supposed to read the Bible, believe and follow what it says, and it alone. Not what some great scholar, new age leader, great new author, or some ancient scroll or lost book says.

What are some of the doctrines of demons (lies) being said and believed right now ?

1. Jesus is NOT the only way to God or Heaven

This is one of the most horrible new-age doctrines of demons ‘lie’ spreading around ! Why ? Because unless you trust and accept Jesus Christ, and him only, as your saviour, YOU WILL NOT ENTER HEAVEN !

There is NO other way to God or Heaven ! There are 3 verses that clearly tell us the salvation can only come from Jesus Christ:

1 Corinthians 2:14 (Jesus himself says he is the ONLY Way !) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
And in Acts 4:12 – Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. Again, in 1 Timothy 2:5 – For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

2. Same-sex relationships are ok

This is clearly wrong ! Folks are now being accused of being a hater or against the times if they say homosexual or same sex relationships are wrong ! Let’s see what God himself and the Bible says about it.

Genesis 19:5-7 (Tells us it’s a Wicked Thing !) – They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.” Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. Leviticus 18:22 (It’s Detestable !) – Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, that is detestable. Leviticus 20:13 (Again it’s called: Detestable !) – If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. Leviticus 20:13 (Folks engaged in homosexual, Immoral or adultery will NOT enter Heaven !) – Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders.

3. Jesus wasn’t really born of a virgin

If you deny the Virgin Birth then you are removing the credibility of the Bible. To deny the Virgin Birth is to question the uniqueness of who and what Jesus Christ exactly is! Some say ‘It’s impossible for a virgin to give birth ?’ That is true exc

Houses of the Holy, broadcast February 1, 2007

Tonight’s episode was penned by Sera Gamble, the co-writer of “Faith”, from season one, which had similar themes of faith and holy vengeance. But this episode put a slightly different spin on these themes, to excellent effect.

On the surface, the general plot and setup of this episode is pretty basic, and exactly what we’d expect given the circumstances. The theme is faith versus skepticism, which we’ve seen many times before in various contexts. When characters are made to ideologically oppose one another in this way, it often comes off as forced and pedantic, but not in this case. The plot is layered so well with its emotional repercussions on the Winchesters, and tied in so organically with the existing plot and character arcs, that the final result is more than just a series of plot points, more than just a morality play, but a story that’s intrinsically important to the development of both of these characters. Sam and Dean react to the situation very differently, and for very well-supported reasons.

In general, Supernatural does this often-taking a seemingly overused theme and turning it on its head, making it new and different and sometimes even profound by using it to illuminate the relationship between these two characters, and to move their story along. It’s the writers’ careful attention to the characterizations of this show, and the implications of the ongoing plot arcs, that make it such a solid and affecting hour of TV every week.

Ghost, spirit or demon? – Part 2

August 30, 2009 by Winchester

Something that people do a lot is try and categorize spirits as demons or even ghosts as demons and frankly, this just isn’t right. There are ghosts and then there are spirits – people who weren’t ever human; even if they do look like it. There’s a whole diverse community of people living out of phase so the world is over populated in more ways than one!

A “demon” is a person who cannot exist on our level of existence. Confused? Well that’s normal.

Think of two places connected by a door. A person is standing on one side of the door. Imagine them just as if they were your neighbor, boss, etc. They’re flesh and blood. They decide to step through the threshold per say and when they’re on the other side, their flesh and blood seem to be able to pass through walls, doors, etc.

What happens is that their molecular structure isn’t compatible with where we live and hence makes them out of phase.

Just because someone is not human does not mean that they are evil or bad. It makes them a different race of people and it’s quite offensive to be called a racial slur such as “demon” when they’ve only lived the way that their society worked or how they lived their life before they came here.

Some religious people would say stepping through that doorway killed them but if they looked back, they wouldn’t see their body lain on the ground. So no, they’re not dead – just out of phase.

It is quite scary to come across someone who is out of phase but what people must understand is that being human doesn’t make them any better than another race of people.

Not all people who are out of phase need help, they just want to live; hence possessions. They don’t know the term “reincarnation” because it’s not in their native language.. it’s like being an immigrant without the papers.. because most people can’t see them and they don’t know how to speak the languages of this world.

It’s a rather large world that we live in; filled with many people with many different languages that it’s somewhat difficult to comprehend that there’s the human languages and then there’s other races of people’s language but after enough time passes, one starts to accept that fact and try to live their life with no fear.
