The Beginner’s Guide to Ghost-hunting
Ghost hunting is a difficult venture to undertake. From dealing with problems of society’s skepticism (a CNN study shows only 33% of Americans believe in ghosts) to actually tracking and capturing or eliminating a phantasm, there is a lot that the amateur ghost hunter must learn. Most guides in bookstores are written as “fiction” or simply not nearly informative enough. In order to explore the world of ghost hunting, one must first understand what a ghost is.
“Ghost Fact-sheet”
1. Ghosts, by and large, have NO NATURAL PREDATORS. This means that ghost population growth has been relatively unrestricted since ghost hunts and witch hunts were outlawed in the mid 1700s. Ghosts are now predicted to outpace other segments of the population and become the largest minority in the United States by 2017.
2. Ghosts are indestructible and are largely composed of dark matter. Since destroying a ghost is impossible, and scaring one is out of the question, ghosts must be persuaded to leave their “Haunts” (their migratory living spaces) by means of deception or bribery. Hence the common ghost hunting term, “Trick or Treat”.
3. Although over 9,000 reports of possession are reported each year, over 28% of these cases are falsified, and 71% are demonic, not phantasmal, possession. Thus, don’t spend your ghost hunting resources on possession cases, as you are largely unequipped to take down the higher of the Order of the Nightmaren.
Quick facts, although useful, will not a ghost hunter make. Yes, one must understand one’s enemy, but this will only go so far. Remember that, being nearly invisible (ghosts reflect ultraviolet and infrared radiation), ghosts could be watching you at any moment. Even now, a wraith is observing your study of this guide, and is preparing counter measures. Don’t be surprised to enter your next Haunt with an EM-Gage, just to find the target ghost has prepared an Anti-EM Radio field to counteract your equipment. You have been warned.
Do note that, despite popular belief, ghosts cannot physically harm you. Of the millions of Haunts that occur each year, only several hundred result in injury. Even then, most of these injuries are self-inflicted, and are caused when a terrified victim trips or falls while evading the ghost. That said, always face a ghost with proper head and elbow protection. Even the most stalwart of ghost hunters can be overcome with fright as they lay eyes on an otherworldly manifestation
